The Blob what feeds me (when it suits her) has been searching the interweb for a DVD for her mothers Birthday.
There was a programme on some years ago (many years ago should Blob be honest about her age) which involved Derek Jacobi - one of Blobs mothers favourites. It was a series about a Mr Pye, who reaped the rewards of his good or bad deeds by either growing wings or horns. Blob cant actually remember the whole story but fully intends to find a copy of the book.
Anyway, she has been looking for the dvd of the series for a 70th Birthday Present because she knows her mother will appreciate it.
Sadly, it is no longer in production, but she persevered and has discovered that the son of Mervyn Peake who is known as Sebastian Peake has a copy of the video and will run off DVD copies for a small sum.
So she came home tonight delighted and raced about trying to find her cheque book.
She doesn't expect her efforts to be appreciated but thats nothing new.
So according to Blob, Mervyn Peake rocks and so does Sebastian Peake for enabling her to get something special.
It's all lost on me unfortunately, because although I could probably learn to read, i would never manage to turn the pages - No Opposable Thumbs!

Jealous?
Why, when i have just got comfortable and am undertaking my ablutions, in this particular instance on Blobs Duffel Coat, does she whinge and whine about lack of hygiene, and me not choosing a good time or place for such things.
One can only assume that she is jealous!
She cannot suck her toes - I can.
She cannot clean her toenails with her tongue - I can.
She cannot smooth her spine with her paws and tongue - and guess what, I can.
Theres quite a few other things that she can't do but I might take her hint about time and place and not go into details.
But I can!

Congratulations to Henry

Henry has obviously been taking me seriously which firstly means he is the only one that does, but secondly his photos have improved no end thanks to my wisdom. Here is Henry's latest, and Im sure that it involved extra treats, because that is the main reason for becoming camera candy!
Go Henry!!

Lifes Terms
Today, Blob found an interesting quote from T.S. Eliot. We like T.S. Eliot because he wrote about cats and as you are well aware, I is one.
"If you haven't the strength to impose your own terms upon life, you must accept the terms it offers you."
What this means is that you shouldn't worry and fret about never having things your way, or having time to do what you want to do, because you have to spend all your time doing things you dont want to do - you either do what you want and the rest of the world be damned, or you meekly allow the rest of the world to tell you what to do.
Bob has decided to tell life where to put its 'terms'. To be honest, I think life gave up offering her terms for fear of being abusively rebuffed some time ago but Im not mentioning that.
I would also like to mention that being of the feline persuasion, I don't accept terms from anyone, Blob can attest to this as she caught me scaling her book shelves this morning in an attempt to get the cat treats she so foolishly left up near the top somewhere having said 'No More' last night. Granted, I wasn't as subtle as I could have been and some ornaments went flying so and she moved the treats and i have no idea where they are now - but this doesn't mean i am accepting her terms - it merely means that i am biding my time because at some point she will give away their location.
Its a waiting game, nothing to do with terms.
Honestly - no terms being agreed to here.

Henry and George
Blob's Godmother Jacky has adopted a couple of cats of whom she is very proud. So proud in fact she has sent Blob a picture:
Now as an expert in all things feline, I am extremely impressed with their evident lack of movement and air of lethargy. Also, George's attempt to become one with the radiator is impressive indeed.
But .. and there is a big but here ... both Henry and George need a few lessons on 'posing for pictures'. This is something that I am a self proclaimed expert in and below I have put together some pointers!
When Blobs get out their cameras, these are some tried and trusted poses you can try which will get you lots of strokes and occasionally chicken!
This is 'Looking Lovingly Upwards'

'Looking to my right'

'Turning to the left - note this is a motion shot!'
'Upside Down (Play with me!)'
'Looking straight at the camera'
So Henry and George, I expect great things from both of you. Learn from the master!

A happy new year and thank you for all our pressies!
I have been particularly slack over the human christmas period, but this has been mainly because my beloved blob has not been to work for a couple of weeks, and we have been snuggled on the sofa watching telly, playing playstation, cooking nigella and jamie and all of this infront of a roasting open fire.
Its been great apart from the fact i havent been fed until midday because thats when blob clambers out of her pit.
On Monday however, she has to go back to work - shes not looking forward to that one little bit and to be honest I will miss her although being fed before midday will be nice.
Blob wants me to announce to all her relatives that she loves her xmas presents and to say thank you very much. I suggested to her that she writes letters - but we can but hope!
So apart from doing nothing for the last fortnight, life has trundled along here pretty much the same as always.
I can now smell fresh bread coming out of the oven and that means melty butter - must go!!

Douglas Adams
The Blob that loves and feeds me has another passion.
She is a posthumous fan of the late great Douglas Adams. She was actually a fan of his before he died, but neither of us are particuarly sure of the correct term for that.
He wrote the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy books and she is also a fan of Eoin Colfer who wrote the final part of the wrongly named trilogy and which was very good. (The films were crap, to coin a phrase). Perhaps he can continue the Dirk Gently novels. It is the Dirk Gently books that Blob is currently interested in. She read them some years ago, and is not sure in hindsight what the plots were, but she definately remembers the theory of the Holistic Detective Agency that based its detection upon the 'interconnectedness of all things'. This is some thing that Blob likes the sound of despite the fact that her memories of the novels consist of a Fridge that was thrown out rather than cleaned, and which ultimately contained Thor, Norse god of Thunder and other stuff. Also that the homeless people of London are actually the lost gods of Valhalla because they have nothing else to do in the day time.
The reason her interest has been piqued is that BBC 4 are about to transmit their adaptation of the Dirk Gently novel or novels starting tomorrow night. The programme starts at 9.00 pm which means she can get back from cubs in time to slob out and appreciate the BBC's version of the 'interconnectedness of all things'. She is really hoping that the ethos is portrayed aptly, but is more interested in the lead actor. Dirk Gently is being played by 'that bloke', you know the one, hes the one that was in that funny thing, he has dark curly hair and a smile to die for, you must have seen him, 'that bloke' - the gorgeous one.
Anyway, I for one am looking forward to Blobs return home and a cozy hour infront of interconnectedness and 'that bloke'.
Heres to slobbing out infront of the telly and hopefully great bbc adaptations.
Also, heres to Douglas Adams - one of the modern greats!
